An analysis by luxury hospitality recruiter The Change Group of employment data over the last five years of from the ONS shows that while 54% of hospitality workers are female, they are mostly employed part time and at a more junior level than their male counterparts.

On average over the past five years, 58% of senior restaurant and catering staff have been men and only 42% are women. The number of female chefs is rising, and they could potentially outnumber male chefs by 2022, however only a third of men work part time compared with two-thirds of women.
