There has been increasing criticism by hoteliers of ‘bedbank’ companies such as Hotelbeds, which move discounted hotel inventory direct to consumers via OTAs, without disclosing the origin of the discounts and without permission.

They argued this creates price wars on search sites like Google and Trivago, pulling down overall rates. Hotelbeds calls the complaints ‘unfounded’ and says that the figures are outdated, and that it has been taking action including its “three strikes” policy penalising customers putting inventory in the wrong channel three times.

Hotelbeds works with more than 180,000 hotels including recent deals with new market entrants like Cloudbeds, Selina, and Oyo.
