UK tourism could enjoy a boost in China visitors as China National Day and the Golden Week holiday get underway shortly.
This is good news for the serviced apartment sector – especially in cities where the Chinese quarter is traditionally thriving, such as Edinburgh, Manchester and London.
Forward flight booking data indicates flights from China between September and November are up 23% on last year. Visits from China to the UK were up 1% in Q1 2019 on last year’s record first quarter, with visitors spending a record £123 million.
VisitBritain is leading a travel trade mission Destination Britain China and North East Asia later this year to meet top tour operators from across China, Japan and South Korea. For every 22 visits from China, one job is created in the British tourist industry.
