Airbnb experienced negative user growth as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, in contrast ti 2019 when it logged 42.2 million users.
The homesharing economy as a whole also declined since last year, seeing 2019’s 58.1 million usersdrop almost 60% to 23.3 million users in 2020, 73% held by Airbnb listings.
Although the rebound for Airbnb began in May, US occupancy rates were still down 38% on the previous year. Full recovery in numbers is forecast for the start of 2021.
