According to the UNWTO’s latest Tourism Highlights data, international tourist arrivals grew for the eighth consecutive year in 2017, a growth of 7% or 84 million over 2016, to a new record 1,323 million.

The growth was led by Europe, up 8%, and Africa, 9%, with Spain rising to become the world’s second most-visited destination, after France.

Tourism spending rose 5% and total tourism exports rose to US$ 1.6 trillion, 7% of the world’s total exports.

China continues to lead global outbound travel, Japan entered the top ten in tourism earnings and the Russian Federation re-entered the top ten of world spenders.
