The latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer reports that international tourist arrivals increased by 6% in 2018, at 1.4 billion – two years ahead of its own 2010 forecast that 1.4 billion would be reached in 2020.

The Middle East saw a 10% increase, Africa 7%, and Asia Pacific and Europe both 6%, while the Americas were below the world average at 3%.

Trends also show strong outbound travel from emerging markets, while the global economic slowdown, uncertainty around Brexit and trade tensions may affect this year’s growth.
