When the municipality of Amsterdam decided to transform the Eastern Docklands into a residential area in 1975, they spared one last post-WWII working crane from demolition, which has now been restored by a local resident, in cooperation with the Eastern district of Amsterdam, Yays Concierged Boutique Apartments, the Conservation of Historic Buildings and Sites and the municipality, with design by the renowned Edward van Vliet.
‘The Yays – Crane Apartment’ was officially opened at a festive event attended by initiators, the municipality of Amsterdam, monumental care and other stakeholders, with Henk Roos, the last crane operator, as the special guest.
Yays Concierged Boutique Apartments was launched in 2014 by ASAP Quality Accredited International Member Short Stay Group, one of the largest serviced apartment providers in Europe, and manages over 100 serviced apartments across three locations in Amsterdam and the recently opened Yays Sagrera in Barcelona. In 2018 the company is planning to open more locations in Paris and Antwerp.
