UKHospitality warns 500,000 jobs are at risk when furlough support ends

Back taxes of £93 million will become an unsustainable burden to the pubs, restaurant and hotel sector if the government fails to lift lockdownfully on June 21, warns Kate Nicholls of UKHospitality

She says that current labour shortages will worsen anyway, as EU workers have left Britain during the crisis and face difficulties returning due to post-Brexit visa rules. She suggests an emergency coronavirus recovery visa could help to attract migrant workers back to Britain.

Many businesses are now competing for skilled chefs and managers, leading to wage inflation.
