According to UKHospitality which represents 700 businesses, the tourism industry needs “immediate and wide-ranging support” to deal with the likely impact of COVID-19 “already being felt by businesses around the country”.

According to the trade body, hotel occupancy has already fallen 15%, and forward bookings across hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars has fallen by up to 50%.

Solutions suggested include a temporary moratorium on business rates to cover periods of non-trading, delay on VAT, PAYE and NICs payments and a VAT cut for hospitality and tourism, to incentivise bookings.
