The UK parliament’s Environmental Audit Committee is to launch an inquiry into the cost of tourism to the environment, including aviation, carbon emissions, the decline of cultural sites, and any negative effects on the housing market.

Overtourism and climate change are currently huge concerns across Europe and globally, while the UK tourism industry is believed to add 5% to global greenhouse emissions. The UK is one of the world’s top five travel markets, with 38 million inbound visitors in 2018.
