Despite the sharp fall in the value of the pound since last year’s Brexit vote, leading to an influx of leisure travellers into the UK, inward business travel is declining with the number of overseas travellers arriving on business down 4% for Q2.

Business travel out of the UK is also suffering, down 7% compared with Q2 last year.

However, those representing the business travel community in the UK, believe there are mitigating factors to the slight downturn, including a late Easter and the general election in June. Many businesses are exploring growth opportunities beyond the EU and there is increased travel between the UK and countries such as India and Australia, with business travel in manufacturing, professional services, pharmaceutical and technology sectors performing well.
