TripAdvisor has recently shown increasing interest in packaging hotels and flights into whole vacation trips, as seen through its recruitment ads and new description of itself as “the world’s leading travel site for reviews and advice on hotels, resorts, flights, vacation rentals, travel packages, and more.”

Vacation package search is more complicated than single elements due to the mix of suppliers and prices, and this is the first time a tab on its homepage or app for packaged vacations has appeared. On the mobile app, flight searches also feature a link to visit Expedia’s packaged price, and this appears on some desktop searches also.

TripAdvisor joins other metasearch providers including Kayak, and its brand Momondo, although Skyscanner states no interest in packages.

However, TripAdvisor and others may hit new regulation in Europe around tightened regulation for selling multi-component travel bookings and using instant booking.
