Travel agencies are benefiting from British people going on more holidays than at any time since 2011, and the number of tour operators and travel agencies going into insolvency each year has fallen from its height of 49 in 2013/14, to 33 in 2017/18.

The OTAs still pose a threat, while other challenges include increased competition and platforms such as Skyscanner and Airbnb making it easier for  holidaymakers to ‘self-organise’ their travel.
