Six people died last month from carbon monoxide poisoning in Chile, in an apartment they had rented via Airbnb.

While the platform is not legally responsible for deaths in apartments rented from their hosts, it does highlight  the issue of fire and life safety in Airbnb apartments, since local authorities often focus more on taxing properties and limiting the number of apartments, than on health standards, fire and life safety issues.
