At UKHospitality’s Shaping the Future summer conference, tourism minister Michael Ellis MP recognised the challenge the hospitality industry faces around workforce as possibly greater than in any other sector, but says that the government is granting the right to apply for settled status in the UK to workers from the EU, and to others arriving during the transition period.

He praised the hospitality sector for delivering “phenomenal economic success”, keeping the UK one of the top global tourist destinations, but stressed that employers need to change perceptions regarding careers in the sector.

Industry leaders discussing the situation at the conference called for more clarity, challenged some of the perceptions of the industry, and questioned whether this action would mitigate the shortfall of EU workers as a result of Brexit.
