The UK tourism industry’s bid for a potential sector deal under the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy has been signed off by The Tourism Industry Council, a group set up to collaborate between government and the tourism industry, led by Steve Ridgway CBE on behalf of the industry.
Britain is seeing strong growth this year, but is outspent by key competitors and losing global market share. The sector deal bid is the result of the industry working together over many months to put tourism at the top of the UK Government’s agenda.
The focus incorporates a boost for both recruitment and productivity, making it easier for overseas and domestic visitors to travel to and explore the UK, and creating ‘tourism zones’ to build quality tourism products.
The bid, which is being facilitated by the British Tourist Authority, will be submitted to government ministers soon.
