Thomas Cook Group and Expedia announced a formal multi-year alliance this time last year, which launched this summer. Under this agreement, Expedia provides the technology for the bookings, and in the future will power the main Thomas Cook websites on its own platform. Meanwhile Thomas Cook’s core sun and beach package holidays will be available via Expedia, which has previously focused on dynamic packaging of separate hotels, flights, activities and other ancillaries.
Out of the revenue-sharing deal, Thomas Cook can concentrate on its sun and beach vacations while also getting access to 60,000 more hotels, and Expedia gets more bookings comparatively eaily.
Thomas Cook can also use the alliance to start offering vacation rentals to its customers by tapping into Expedia-owned HomeAway.
