Indian Hotels Co. Ltd , owned by the Tata Group and best known for its Taj hotel brand, has launched the first branded homestay product in India, Amã Trails & Stays.

Meaning “home” in Sanskrit, Amã aims to have 100 properties within the country before the end of 2020, ranging from US$100 to US$150 per night.

The first are nine heritage bungalows previously managed by Tata Coffee, and the Group has also 300-500 existing potential homestay properties. The bungalows will come with a supervisor, cook and cleaner and the opportunity to explore tea and coffee plantations.

The company’s MD and CEO has described the move as the biggest opportunity to lead the space that has been dominated by the Airbnbs of the world which have risen in power while “the hotel industry kept sleeping”.
