Around 69% of the 230 respondents to a survey by the International Society of Hospitality Consultants said the appeal of timeshares is diminishing in light of home-sharing services, due to Airbnb and other sharing platforms’ flexibility and offer of unique experiences.

Some investors in the timeshare industry however are still believers in the model, including Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corp., which recently acquired rival ILG, a timeshare specialist with more than 40 properties and over 250,000 owners in its portfolios.
