A 50-year-old car park in Cambridge is due to be demolished and replaced by a 227-room Staycity Wilde aparthotel with underground public parking, the council’s “biggest single financial investment” ever at £80-£90m.

The opposition group leader has criticised the development, saying the site could have been used to address the city’s housing deficit and that the new building won’t achieve a carbon-neutral standard.

The ground floor will offer secure cycle parking and nearby public toilets will be expanded to replace those in the old car park.
