According to MMGY Global’s Portrait of American Travelers survey among approximately 60 million travelling households, millennial families are planning to spend more and travel more than other generational segments.

The study predicts that travellers in the US intend to travel 6% more this year, but the 9.5million millennial households intend to travel 35% more and spend 19% more on vacations. Millennial families make up 16% of all American travellers and are the driving force behind growth in travel this year, with three-quarters considering themselves happy, optimistic about their own future and the future of the world.

Domestic vacations now make up 85% of American trips, with 13.9 million more holidays taken within the US than outside the country.
