The concepts of serviced apartments and homestays are rapidly catching up in the Indian city of Dehradun, with tourists preferring such options over hotel rooms especially among families whose children are either studying in schools there or who wish to cook their own food.

And, to meet rising demand, many local families across the region have converted parts of their houses or bungalows into homestays. Even the king of Nepal’s erstwhile palace in Jharipani has been converted into a cottage complex.

Over 100 homes are listed on for homestay cottages, offering a local experience and seen as safe since the credentials of the guests are pre-verified on online portals with reviews from their previous hosts.
