Rome currently receives an average of 85 coaches a day in its historical centre, which the city’s tourism authorities plans to reduce by two-thirds in an effort to stem over-tourism.

But the European Tourism Association claims this will affect the city’s overnight group travel sector, with around 1.8 million overnight stays worth more than €1.65 billion each year. The ETOA is calling for a halt to the plans while an alternative is sought.
