Plans to knock down Scruffy Murphy’s, one of Dublin’s most famous pubs, to make way for a 36-suite aparthotel are being fought by residents.

The pub is not trading and was put up for sale for €1 million last year, but objections have been raised around noise, traffic, lack of parking facilities and disturbance to the quiet inner-city housing by any late-night functions.

Council officials have expressed concern at the 19-metre height of the proposed aparthotel.
