According to Airbnb, its services in cities across the world are good for the local economy, bringing in taxes and high-spending tourists.

However, critics believe home-sharing platforms raise the cost of living and have a detrimental effect on the amount of local housing, as investors move in to make a killing.

This article analyses data to study the impact of Airbnb on the housing market in the US and elsewhere, and concludes it does have an impact – but this isn’t the full story; mainly because areas where owner-occupiers are present are less-affected, as they are more likely to rent out individual rooms.
