Developer and contractor Downing has put in its plans for a 45-storey co-living scheme at Manchester’s First Street close to Mancunian Way.

The site was bought in March 2019 for around £18m, and the scheme numbers more than 2,200 bedrooms divided almost equally between compact studios and one, two, three, four, and five-bedroom apartments.

In a report published last December, Manchester council outlined concerns around the rise of untested co-living proposals in the city, although another 32-storey scheme is proposed under Vita Group’s Union brand.
