A landlord who was promised an embassy tenant for his flat in Chelsea by a national corporate let agency instead found it turned into ‘party central’. Emails from the agency described a single male tenant working at the French embassy, and persuaded the landlord to reduce the rent for their long-term, reliable client.

The man received late night calls from neighbours about behaviour, flooding and noise, and a letter of complaint from the council, after the ‘corporate agent’ advertised the flat for up to eight people a night on Airbnb for up to £7,000 a month.

Landlord Action, which represents the rights of those letting out properties across the UK, is calling for transparency about companies taking out rentals and repercussions to landlords, calling for a trade body or association that oversees these transactions.
