At a marathon meeting in Ottawa, the city’s Community and Protective Services Committee agreed that property owners will be allowed to rent out their principal residences, rural cottages and vacation homes on short-term rental apps like Airbnb or Vrbo, but commercial and investment property owners will not be allowed.

Hosts will also need to register for a two-year permit, and follow strict rules and guidelines for health and safety, community nuisances and consumer protection.
