According to a poll by Hotstats of full-service UK hotels, although the year was generally positive for the sector, business trailed off in December with declines in room occupancy and RevPAR.

Average room rate nationally in December increased by 1% to £116.43, occupancy fell 0.8% to 70.3% and RevPAR was down fractionally to £81.90. RevPAR in London also suffered due to falling occupancy, dropping to £164.94.

The sector was affected in part by rising room supply combined with the usual reduction in business stays over the festive period.
