New Zealand’s tourism industry has come to a standstill in the wake of coronavirus, and now property investors are pulling properties away from Airbnb to offer as long-term rentals instead.

Huge numbers of Airbnb units are now listed on the longer-term rental market, in particular in Queenstown, advertised extensively across Facebook community groups at discounted rents. Most are furnished and on six-month leases so they can be relisted on Airbnb in the summer months when the crisis is over.
