Suburb of Chicago Naperville is likely to ban short-term rentals like Airbnb until city officials can figure out how to bring in regulation, and stop “party houses”.
Naperville City Council members has agreed to consider an ordinance on August 18th putting a hold on short-stay apartment and house rentals, to give city staff time to come up with proposed regulations.
A new report on the topic should be ready for council review within six months.
Short-term rentals have become a problem in the area, including an unauthorized Super Bowl Sunday house party for 150 people which wreaked havoc on the millionaire residential block.
However some short-stay renters and property owners have opposed the plans.
