Following an increase in complaints over unpaid shifts over the last three years, a Private Members’ Bill will be debated in Parliament tomorrow calling for prospective employees to be paid at least the National Minimum Wage, and for transparency around what an interview and trial will comprise in order to secure one of a published number of positions.

UKHospitality CEO has welcomed the bill, but the Federation of Small Businesses opposes it, saying one-off trial shifts are a valuable part of the recruitment process especially for small businesses.
