UKHospitality claims that placing London in Tier 2 without more job support and grants will have disastrous outcomes for the hospitality sector, which will face widespread job losses in weeks.

London and Essex will face tougher restrictions from Saturday 17 October, involving a ban on household mixing in pubs and restaurants, and the rule of six outdoors and 10pm closing still applying.

The news follows the announcements made earlier in the week that placed areas in the North West on very high-alert.

Kate Nicholls, chief executive of UKHospitality, added that without the “Tier 3 job support to Tier 2 businesses” there will be “catastrophic business closures and widespread job losses in the capital as early as 1 November”.
