A survey of 12,623 over-50s commissioned by Saga showed a “seismic shift” in those looking to bring an off-the-beaten-track adventure to a luxury holiday, with older travellers opting for untraditional destinations such as Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan.

However, 84% said political instability would put them off travelling, 75% would be deterred by crime, 55% were concerned about human rights and 4% were put off visiting the US due to President Trump’s leadership.

Top 10 experiences sought included exploring Eurasia and seeing the Northern Lights, while bonding with others over shared passions also featured highly.
