The Greater Manchester and Liverpool City Region Metro Mayors have warned that they both need urgent Government help to stop key transport services grinding to a halt during the coronavirus pandemic.

Monthly revenues are down by millions of pounds, but both networks are maintaining reduced rail and bus services for key essential workers who need public transport to reach work.

However, they are emphasising the positives that have come from the lockdown, urging government to support a switch to electric vehicles, to encourage more exercise, to prioritise cyclists and pedestrians over the car, and keep the benefits of home working.
