Marriott’s 612-room Moxy Times Square wasn’t specifically developed to take on Airbnb, but its high-style, urban camping aesthetic, affordable room rates (the price of an Airbnb property of lower standard and in a less salubrious location) and industry innovations foster a sense of community at the property aimed at today’s modern traveller.
Moxy guests check in with a crew member at dedicated kiosks or access keyless entry through the Marriott mobile app, and the lobby offers various digital and retail entertainment opportunities.
Bedrooms are functional and flexible, with furniture such as chairs and other furniture hung on pegs or designed to fold away, walk-in rain showers, wood frame beds with storage and fast free WiFi. Social spaces include an open rooftop playspace with antique carousel and miniature golf, and bar that changes from co-working space via evening relaxation to late-night party space, all offering a sense of community.
Future planned Moxy properties include Los Angles, Miami, and New York’s Greenwich Village.
