Madeira has recorded only nine active cases of Covid-19 since relaxing restrictions on incoming visitors, with officials arguing this makes it one the safest destinations in Europe to visit. Only 90 cases were registered before the sector reopened on July 1st.

Face masks are now mandatory in public spaces in Madeira for anyone over ten, unless social distancing can be observed such as sports, nature walks, visits to farms and gardens, beaches and bathing complexes.
