A leading lettings agent has criticised Airbnb for its refusal to take action over illegal sub-letting.

His team turned up early for a routine inspection of one of the apartments the agency manages, to find the tenants checking in a family to the property. Base Property discovered over 70 reviews on Airbnb for the apartment going back to the start of its 22-month tenancy.

The hosts were in breach of the landlord’s mortgage, buildings insurance, local licensing laws, and both short-term let and HMO licensing but Airbnb left the agency to deal direct with the tenants and ultimately evict them.
