India has the world’s second-largest population and the fastest-growing major economy, with citizens earning more disposable income to spend on travel. According to the WTO, the country’s spend on outbound travel in 2016 was $19.2 billion, placing it in the top 20 countries for expenditure – and forecast to increase rapidly.

The latest Skift Research report, The State of India Outbound Travel 2018, considers the increase in Indian outbound air travel, numbers of trips and travel spend, customer behaviour and travel preferences, and compares India’s figures to those of China which were similar until 2010, when growth exploded.
