After 18 months of research and development, ASAP Premium Industry Suppliers Hypnos Contract Beds has pioneered another carbon neutral innovation to help with carbon reduction efforts across the bed and furniture industry, by creating a new recyclable, eco-friendly packaging solution using sugarcane.
Sugarcane ethanol, a bi-product of sugar cane production, is combined with recycled plastic to form a green polyethylene (a more environmentally-friendly form of plastic), which is carbon neutral, 100% recyclable and incredibly durable.
Hypnos made the decision not to patent or trademark this revolutionary packaging for themselves, but want to share their innovation globally, are calling on industries around the world to ditch single use polythene and make the transition to this 100 per cent recyclable product. If all the mattress manufacturers in the UK switched to eco polythene, Hypnos says it would save 8,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Hypnos was the first bed maker in the world to become carbon neutral, and has been for a decade, as well as receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development this year.
