Tourism stakeholders in Cebu want the Department of Tourism to include regulating Airbnb as it forms new policies post-pandemic, while the tourism industry is at a standstill.

During the time the Philippines blocked tourists, hoteliers invested heavily in contactless technology, the re-training of hotel staff and in cleaning and safety measures to reassure guests, so failing to regulate Airbnb will put the country’s tourism at a disadvantage as travellers will now put a premium on safety and cleanliness when choosing a holiday destination.

The Department of Tourism has released a memorandum circular on “Health and Safety Guidelines for Accommodation Establishments” outlining areas where public health standards will be imposed, from guest handling policy, front desk and housekeeping to kitchen sanitation and disinfection, hotel transport service and management of symptomatic guests.
