A study by career search engine Adzuna across 8,600+ apprenticeship positions advertised in the UK has shown that, with 1,351 hospitality and catering apprenticeships available, the sector has the highest number of apprentice roles on offer surpassing both IT and Teaching.

However, hospitality apprenticeships roles earn poorly, offering on average £8,579, placing the sector in the bottom 5 of the 29 industries studied, although some specialist management roles could earn up to £19,700. Engineering apprenticeships offer more than double on average, at £17,833, but there are many fewer opportunities advertised nationwide.

Also, many hospitality apprenticeship vacancies are clustered in London and the South East, with 142 head chef  training-schemes in Greater London alone, contrasting with 27 on offer in Wales and 35 in the North East.
