Hilton Worldwide has introduced its digitally enhanced Connected Room, allowing guests to control their environment such as TV, streaming, temperature and lighting from their Hilton Honors app, and digital key technology, which the company has so far installed in about two-thirds of its more than 5,100 properties.

On the owner side, a dashboard tracks room usage such as energy consumption, guest room maintenance needs and housekeeping functions.


In an effort to stay ahead of competition from the sharing economy and powerful OTAs, in the longer term Connected Room will keep innovating, offering other connected devices, engagements and experiences including using voice commands, the ability to upload artwork and photos to personalise the room and customise preferences via the app, while future developments include VR goggles giving a three-dimensional view inside rooms and around the hotel.
