Google met this week with a US House Judiciary Committee to counter the view that it holds a monopoly on online search, including for travel; however one Committee member cited a 2018 study which alleged Google accounts for more than 90% of all US web searching, and is therefore at least a “near monopoly”.

Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple were attending to discuss how they impact innovation and entrepreneurship, and all defended their positions, saying their specialist competitors were often the consumer’s first choice for research.
