A fraudster prosecuted in the US for a £40 million investment scam has been caught renting more than ten properties throughout the UK, which he sub-let as listings on Airbnb.
They include a three-bedroom 18th Century cottage in the Peak District, listed for parties of up to 24 people at a time, which he rented himself for £1,350/month and let for £1,200 a night. The owner eventually changed the locks to stop unruly parties, including one of 20 flying a Taliban flag.
The fraudster also rented a two-bed £1,200/month flat on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile which he listed for £495 a night to up to 35 guests. The flats’ solicitor owner says she cannot legally end his lease.
