Expedia calls itself in its marketing, “The World’s Travel Platform”, making some comparisons to Google, Amazon, and Facebook.

However, millions of people from China to India, and from France to Brazil, buy their own travel products through many other giant OTAs such as Ctrip, WeChat, MakeMyTrip, Despegar, Flight Centre, Booking.com, Google, their local travel agency and membership clubs.

In fact, Expedia itself says it has 12% of overall travel market share in the US and Canada, 3% in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 5% in Asia Pacific and 2% in Latin America.
