Despite dismal travel results recorded for the state in June by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, new hotel plans and project timelines are still being updated in Melbourne.

Joint-venture developers Urban, Hamilton Marino and CHT Architects have signed ASAP Member Ascott’s new hotel brand Lyf as part of their 105-room Collingwood co-living building, to open in 2022.

Urban’s director Bart O’Callaghan has welcomed Ascott as operator of the ensuite and studio apartments in its new property, as the first co-living hotel and the first of its kind in Australia.

After Covid-19 cases started to pick up in Victoria, international visits have dropped by 99.3%, following almost a decade of solid growth in arrivals.

But developers are optimistic about recovery. So far 2020 has seen the most arrivals from New Zealand, the UK and US.
