Following an in-depth investigation, the UK Competitions and Markets Authority has blocked Sabre’s proposed takeover of Farelogix.

Both companies supply software solutions to help airlines to sell flights via offline and online travel agents including enabling airlines to create add-ons such as seats with extra leg room, WiFi and meals.

The CMA found that the acquisition could lead to less innovation in their services, and fewer new features that may be released more slowly, meaning airlines, travel agents and UK passengers would be worse off.

The US Department of Justice blocked the merger following a separate review, but this week the US District Court of Delaware decided to clear it.
