With cases mounting of novel coronavirus, China has cancelled all domestic and outbound group tours and non-essential travel activities, in what is traditionally China’s busiest travel season.

The China Travel Service Association announced the temporary suspension of all group tours and package trips in China and abroad at the weekend, while the country’s largest travel services company, Trip.com, has announced it is expanding its “cancellation guarantee” policy to cover bookings at 30,000 global hotels.

Chinese New Year celebrations have been hit with major attractions including in Hong Kong already shut, such as the Forbidden City and sections of the Great Wall of China near Beijing, Disneyland in both Shanghai and Hong Kong, Ocean Park.
