Booking Holdings bought European metasearch company Momondo Group last year for $550 million and quickly brought in a new leadership team, mostly Kayak executives, and is now changing the business strategy, mainly around how the company spends its marketing budget.

They say they have decreased brand marketing by around 90% to focus on search engine marketing.

In 2017 Momondo’s overall revenue jumped 60%, swinging from an operating loss of $6.7 million to $8.7 million profit, while it cut headcount by a third, cutting staff costs to $10.7 million including severance pay.
